OLYMPUS
      CONFIDENTIAL
by Robert B.Warren

When a band of super-powered humans stirs up trouble in New Olympia, Zeus knows just who to call.

Wisecracking private investigator Plato Jones is used to cleaning up the gods' messes. But this might be his most dangerous case yet, placing him deep behind enemy lines, in Tartarus Maximum Security Penitentiary. After infiltrating the enemy's organization, Plato inches closer to the truth. But he learns a hard lesson along the way: to defeat a villain, he might have to become one himself.

Olympus Confidential skillfully weaves humor and Greek mythology into this fast-paced fantasy. Whether new or returning to the Plato Jones series, fans of thrillers, contemporary fantasy, and Greek mythology will have a tough time putting this one down.

Excerpt

“We want you to go undercover and find out how King and his friends acquired their special abilities.”

“But King is in jail.”

“Yes, he is.”

I held up my hand. “Hold on. Let me get this straight. You want to send me to jail to make friends with a potentially dangerous criminal and his equally dangerous accomplices?”

“Of course not, Mr. Jones.”

“Good. For a second there, I thought you’d lost your mind.”

“We want to send you to Tartarus.”

“Tartarus? The Tartarus?”

“Correct.

I let out a humorless laugh. To call Tartarus Maximum Security Penitentiary the most dangerous prison on Earth would have been completely inaccurate. That’s because it wasn’t located on Earth, but in another dimension, only accessible by one of Hades’s magical portals. The facility housed some of the worst criminals of all time. Monsters beyond redemption.

“You know, I take back what I said about your losing your mind,” I said. “Because I see now that you’ve clearly gone bananas. I should’ve known it from the moment you walked in. Only a crazy person would wear a suit like that in public. Can I offer you another cup of coffee?”

Hermes ignored both the insult and the offer. “King and his associates will be going to trial soon. They will be convicted, they will be sent to Tartarus, and you will be right there beside them, becoming a member of their inner circle.”

“And what if I say no? Which I will most certainly do.”

“Refusal would be ill-advised.”

“Ill-advised, huh? What are you going to do? Hold my ex-wife hostage again? Blackball her new husband?” I paused. “On second thought, you guys can have a field day with him. But leave Alexis out of this.”

“No one’s going to be held hostage, Mr. Jones.”

“Then it looks like you don’t have anything to threaten me with.” I checked my watch. “Oh, would you look at that. It seems we’re out of time. I even gave you two additional minutes. Aren’t you lucky?”

“Stubborn as usual.” Hermes slid the reports into the folder and stood up. “But I’ll change your mind.”

“Whatever you say, chief. Now if you don’t mind, I have work to do.”

“I respectfully advise you to cooperate.”

“And I respectfully decline.”

“Have it your way, Mr. Jones. I’ll be in touch.”

EXCERPT

He held out his free hand and I reached for it without thinking. Taking the hand of this stranger seemed like the most natural thing in the world.

Our fingers touched and my skin came alive. I felt a surge of electricity as some sort of energy shot from his hand into mine, running through my whole body and back to his like an endless circuit. I couldn’t stifle the gasp that broke through my lips. I stared at him, my vision narrowing until his face and eyes and smile were the only things I could see.

The energy between us exploded outward like a wave into the crowd, through the people and everything around me stopped. The music ended like a switch had been flipped, the people froze mid-step and even the air around me seemed to stop moving.

AUTHOR BIO

Rose Shababy and her family reside in eastern Washington State. Rose grew up in the Northwest but swears she’s going to move to warmer climates someday. She’s claimed this for over 20 years, however, and has yet to move more than 75 miles away from her mother.

Rose has a deep love of all things Star Trek and yearns to travel the heavens, as well as an intense desire to be bitten by a radioactive spider. Unfortunately she sucks at science and math so she hasn’t been able bring her dreams to life, instead living vicariously through books, comics, television and film. She hopes to someday make a million dollars so she can afford to buy her way to the international space station, but she’d settle for being able to fly around the world and leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Rose also loves to cook and worked for years in a gourmet Italian grocery and deli where she learned to hone her skills. She prepares culinary masterpieces for her family, but fervently wishes the dishes would wash themselves. Especially now that her dishwashers/children are nearly grown and only one still lives at home.

Rose likes to use her free time wisely. For instance, she likes to daydream, will often read for hours until she falls asleep on the couch with an electric blanket and a warm tabby cat curled up on her hip, as well as spending cozy weekend days watching Syfy movies like Sharknado and Mega Piranha with her husband.

If Rose were a cartoon animal, she’d prefer to be a wise old owl or a sleek and sexy jaguar, but in reality she’d probably be a myopic mole with coke-bottle glasses.

 Uriel’s  FALL
by  Loralie Hall

Ronnie has the job any entry-level angel or demon would sell their soul for—she's a retrieval analyst for the largest search engine in the world. Ubiquity is a joint initiative between heaven and hell. Because what better way to track all of humanity's secrets, both good and bad, than direct access to their web browsing habits.

She might appreciate the position a little more if a) she could remember anything about her life before she started working at Ubiquity, b) the damn voice in her head would just shut up already, and c) her boss wasn't a complete dickhead.

As she searches for solutions to the first two issues, and hopes the third will work itself out in performance reviews, she uncovers more petty backstabbing than an episode of Real Housewives, and a conspiracy as old as Lucifer's descent from heaven. On top of all that, if she forgets the cover sheet on her TPS report one more time, she's absolutely going on final written warning.

Now Ronnie’s struggling to keep her sanity and job, while stopping the voice in her head from stealing her life. She almost misses the boredom of data analysis at Ubiquity. Almost.

****SPECIAL NOTE***

 Uriel's FALLwill be on sale
for $0.99 for the length of the tour.

Excerpt

We must have sat there, me on the couch, and Michael on the floor, for at least half an hour, not saying anything else.

I finally broke the silence. “You need your rest.” I would have rather kept him there, but I couldn’t ask him to sit on the floor by me all night.

“Do you want a real bed to sleep in?” He stood and offered me his hand.

He didn’t mean…? No, he couldn’t. Maybe his bed? Light anticipation fluttered in my chest, rising above the horrors of the night. “I wouldn’t complain.”

“You can stay in the guest room.” He helped me to my feet.

I couldn’t ignore my disappointment, but I also wasn’t about to turn down the offer. I followed him to one of the doors, and he nudged it open. “You stay here as long as you need. Not just tonight, but until you find a new place. If you want to wash some of the dust off, there are clean towels in the bathroom, and you can snag something to wear from the drawers or closet.”

I glanced up at him, not able to talk myself out of wanting him. I forced the question out before I could take it back. “Will you help me?”

He furrowed his brow. “With…?”

I stepped closer, thumbs hooked in my belt loops, tugging down the waistband of my jeans. “Washing the dust off.”

I watched him through my eyelashes, trying to gauge his reaction. He hadn’t said yes, but he also hadn’t said no, turned me away, or left. With any luck I wasn’t about to humiliate myself.

Mind Games
by Christine Amsden

Beware your heart and soul…

Evan broke Cassie’s heart two months ago, and she still doesn’t know why. She throws herself into family, friends and her new job at the sheriff’s department, but nothing helps. The only thing that finally allows her heal and move on is the love of a new man, mind mage Matthew Blair. Cassie finds him…irresistible.

Matthew may also be the only one who can help keep the non-magical residents of Eagle Rock from going crazy over the murder of a beloved pastor’s wife. It looks like a sorcerer is to blame, but while Cassie tries to figure out who, others take matters into their own hands. With tensions running so hot, a single spark might set Eagle Rock ablaze.

Excerpt

“Can you read minds?” The question bypassed my brain and went straight to my mouth. You don't ask sorcerers about their powers. It just isn't done. When I realized what I'd said, I clapped a hand over my mouth and started to apologize.

Before I could, he held up a staying hand. He nodded, once, very slightly.

“You can?” The admission stunned me, since I doubted anyone outside his family would know. Though I supposed if he thought I might use the knowledge against him, he could always erase it later. But it didn't explain why he had told me in the first place.

“I thought being honest with you might help us become friends,” Matthew said.

In this case, I didn't think the truth would help him much. How could I be friends with someone who could read my every thought?

Matthew's face fell. “I understand. It's why I don't tell many people. But it's not like it's something I can help.”

I hadn't meant to hurt him. As a rule, I hated hurting people. Wincing, I wondered what I could do to make him feel better, especially when he could read the truth in my mind – that I really didn't think we could be friends. Words, I could control. Thoughts were something else entirely.

“Can't you block it out?” I asked, finally.

He shook his head. “I think of it as hearing thoughts rather than reading minds. When you say you can read minds, it leaves the impression that you can close your eyes and stop seeing the thoughts. For me it's is a lot more like trying not to hear a loud noise, especially when someone broadcasts her thoughts as loudly as you do.”
