New to town, Seth Stone is seeking inspiration and solitude to concentrate on his art. Short on funds, he agrees to take on a second job restoring the damage to Kate’s Closet. Trouble erupts along with the desire to get to know Kate better. When he’s used as a pawn in a smear campaign against his gorgeous boss Seth fights back. But now the whole town is watching. Including the man determined to further his own agenda. Time is running out with nowhere to hide.


 
Excerpt
Seth shook his head. “I moved here with the intention of concentrating on my art. I can’t afford to get involved with anyone right now. No matter how beautiful or appealing. You don’t seem like the sex and forget it type. And that’s all I have in me right now.”

Wasn’t that the story of her life? Men wanting to have sex with her but not interested in getting to know the real her? All they saw was the face.

She knew how to deal with men like that. She froze them out. “Well, thank you for being honest with me.”

Really, it was for the best. Did she want him to get to know the neurotic, insecure woman she’d become in the last six years? Did she want this beautiful man to see the real her? She should back away. Put more than two feet of distance between them.

“Tell me I’m wrong.” His Adam’s apple bobbed. “Then ask me to stay and I will.”

“No, you’re not wrong.” She looked away. Too tempted by far to risk being carefree enough to sleep with him. To kiss him goodbye afterwards. To work with him the next day like nothing had happened. Wished she didn’t believe in consequences. Or guilt.

“I should go.” He ran a hand over the stumble forming along his jawline before retrieving his shirt. At the door, with his back to her, he said, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
She nodded, but he didn’t see it. He was out the door. His boot treads fading as he jogged down the stairs.

Then silence. 

The kind that stretched to fill the four corners of a room. A quiet that left little doubt you were utterly and completely alone.




Author bio 

I grew up on a farm in the middle of Canada's breadbasket. Under the canopy of crisp blue prairie skies I read books. Lots and lots of books. One day the inevitable happened and I knew without question the time was right. What to write was never the issue - romance and the gut wrenching journey towards forever.

I know, I know such shocking 
behavior coming from a lover of Historical Romance...but what can I say, I love me those dark menacing Lords and feisty damsels 
in distress and Of Love and Vengeance by Louise Lyndon promises to give me just what I need to satisfy that craving I have for a good romance.



But first let's hear from Louise on the ten things she didn't know about being an Author but now does.
10 Things I didn't know about being an Author but now do…


1) Being an author isn’t just about writing. I know that may sound bizarre to some people, but the writing element is only one part of it (an important part, to be sure)!

2) You have to be prepared to sell yourself. I’m not talking about selling yourself when you’re pitching to an agent or publisher – I’m talking about what you need to do after you’ve signed on the dotted line and you have a product (a book) and you need to let the world know about it. It takes a lot of time and work – but it’s a fun side to being an author. I really enjoy it.

3) That people are actually prepared to part with their hard earned dollars to buy a story I’ve written. Maybe it’s the insecure side of me coming out, but each time I learn someone has purchased my book I still have a moment, ‘someone is actually wanting to read something I’ve written?’ I still can’t believe it.

4) I didn’t realize how frightening it would be to let my baby loose into the big, wide world. It is nerve wracking to know it’s out there and I cannot control who reads it – my editor was the only other person to have read the complete version of, Of Love and Vengeance – now it’s available for all. I never realized how scared that would make me.

5) Being an author is a business.

6) How limited my free time would become – I miss reading! Don’t get me wrong, I still read, but not as often as I used to.

7) I always had this fear that once I signed a contract the pressure to write the next book would be too great – but NOPE – it’s as pressure free and BRILLIANT to create a fictional world and characters as it has always been.

8) You not only have to be creative, but you have to learn to be a business person/marketing person/anything else to create a successful ‘product’.

9) I can have a friend read my book and not hyperventilate at the thought.

10) I always thought I controlled what my characters did – but the more I write I realize my characters are the ones who control me and they use me to tell their story. Not the other way around!

Laila heard them long before she saw them. Their angry, frenzied shouts and thunderous roars filled her ears. With her hands tied securely behind her, she was dragged up the lane toward Tyburn Gallows, where she was to be hanged for a crime she did not commit. The mob sounded blood thirsty. Large. Frightening.

There was no sign of Aymon. Or Hugh. Had they left her alone to die?

Her chin trembled and her nails dug into her palms.

She suddenly fell to her knees and screamed until she tasted blood at the back of her throat. She kicked out and tried to crawl free as her hair was almost torn from the roots as she was pulled up and shoved along the lane.

Her eyes burned with her tears.

“I am innocent!” Laila screamed.

They came around a corner, and that’s when she saw them. There must have been a least two thousand men, women, and children, hungry for her blood. And when they saw her, they erupted into a wild fever of roars and cries for a slow and painful death. Their thirst had been piqued, and now it must be sated.

Laila was shoved into the center of the clearing.

She glanced wildly around in a desperate search for Aymon’s towering, bulky frame. She could not see him.


But what she could see was the Tyburn Tree. The gallows she was to be hanged from. The executioner, hooded, stood beside the tree as he waited patiently for her. Laila’s mouth suddenly went dry.


Author Bio 

Louise grew up in country Victoria, Australia, before moving to England, where for sixteen years she soaked up the vibrancy of London and the medieval history of England. She has since returned to Australia and now lives in Melbourne.

She has been writing the moment she picked up a copy of Diana Gabaldon's first Outlander novel twenty something years ago. She thought to herself, 'this is what I want to do' - not travel back in time, but become a novelist! She has always had snippets of dialogue and scenes floating around in her head with characters screaming at her to bring them to life.

In 2013, Louise won first prize in the Crested Butte Sandy Writing contest – Historical category for her story, The Promise, which is now called, Of Love and Vengeance.


When not writing, she can be found covered in mud, crawling under barbed wire and hoisting herself over twelve foot walls - under the guise of competing in Spartan races all over Australia.
